Bringing healthy meal alternatives to P-Town
Pampa High School Class of 1994 graduate Lisa Carrillo opened P-Town Nutrition at 217 N. Ballard Street on June 15 and has quickly become one of Pampa’s top stops for healthy beverages.
Carrillo, who lives in Amarillo, said after seeing how much Herbalife has helped her with health, she wanted to bring it back home for Pampans to experience, as well.
“I’ve been on Herbalife for five or six years and I worked at a nutrition club in Amarillo,” Carrillo said. “So I thought it would be neat to come back home and open up my own business in my hometown.
“I’ve seen the difference it’s made in my health and my weight so I thought it would be something good to bring here.”
P-Town Nutrition offers a variety of shakes, energy teas (without sugar) and other healthy-lifestyle protein bars and balls.
“My shakes have 24 grams of protein and 21 grams of vitamins and minerals,” Carrillo said. “My teas are a healthy energy tea. They are kind of the equivalent of a Red Bull, but it’s healthy, no sugar and it doesn’t have the crash you normally get with a Red Bull.”
The options at P-Town Nutrition can help customers lose weight, maintain weight or whatever their fitness goal is.
“We have protein bars and all kinds of enhancers,” Carrillo said. “We have protein balls, beverage mixers, etc.”
Along with Herbalife products, the protein shakes contain whey protein supplement and isolate-soy. P-Town Nutrition also uses frozen fruits and a variety of nuts in their drinks.
Carrillo said the reception from the Pampa community has been great and word-of-mouth and social media has helped with the growth.
“It’s been awesome,” Carrillo said. “We get new customers every day. We will ask our customers how they heard about us and social media where they are checking in or tagging each other in posts [is helping]. It’s been nice, it’s been busy.”
The traffic on Ballard and it’s proximity to Pampa High School were key factors in deciding her location.
“I was looking at when school opens, the high school is just up the street,” Carrillo said. “In Amarillo we see a lot of high school kids come to get the nutrition.
“My goal is to get the students in here and get them on the nutrition. Kind of make it how it was at The Zone in Amarillo.”
P-Town Nutrition is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Carrillo’s Herbalife coach, Teresa Harris, said P-Town Nutrition offers healthy alternatives to the fast-paced foods you may eat.
“It’s just a healthy option that you have instead of going to get a burger,” Carrillo said. “You just feel better after that, instead of that heavy feeling. Even if you’re not looking to lose weight.”
As her business grows, Carrillo hopes to eventually add a small workout class during her business hours.
