Lonestar Gin just south of Pampa hosted a Customer Appreciation Day along with a Field Tour Friday morning.

Gin manager Carey McKinney said part of the event was to showcase the seed variety while comparing the different producers’ product.

“We’ve taken seed variety and compared various companies’ and different things,” McKinney said. “We’re doing a replicated trial in the field so it’s given a better conclusion on the results for the farmers. It’ll help give them an idea of what varieties they can choose come planting time.”

The Gin opened last November and is ready to start up despite the recent dry conditions.

“The weather’s definitely been a challenge this year and the cold spell we had last week has us waiting to see what’s going to happen,” McKinney said. “We don’t know how it’s going to affect the cotton and hopefully we weren’t cold long enough for it to affect it.”

McKinney said the full crew will have about 60 employees and the gin will be operating starting Oct. 11.
