Johnnie married the love of his life, Colleen Winegeart, on February 9, 1951. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954 and was stationed in San Diego, California. He sailed on the USS Sperry alongside 3 of his brothers. This was the last known instance where that many siblings were allowed on one vessel under the same commandment. On January 10, 1952 Johnnie and Colleen began their family by welcoming a daughter, Linda June, into the world. Two years later, on April 28, 1954 their son, John (Bud) Earl was born. After his time spent serving in the U.S. Navy he began working for the San Diego and Coronado Ferry Boat Company as a captain. Following his time spent as a captain, he went to work for the Teamster Union Local 36 and eventually retired from Operating Engineers Local 12 San Diego California as a heavy construction engineer. Johnnie and his family moved back to Pampa in 1974 where he owned and operated Lowe Steam Services for almost 20 years. Being someone who liked to stay busy, he soon began working for Panhandle Industrial as a truck driver. Two of his most notable accomplishments were bull riding and receiving the title of a Golden Glove boxer. As a man of many interests and a jack of all trades, some of his many hobbies included, hunting, fishing, gambling and playing Keno (which was his all-time favorite). He loved playing Keno so much that his nickname was, Keno Lowe! Johnnie will be greatly missed by all of his friends and family.
