Peggy Wray 'Granny' Fisher
Peggy Wray “Granny” Fisher, a very blessed 83 years of age, joined her beloved husband, Doug and her eternal Father Monday evening, June 15, 2020 at home surrounded by her precious family. She was born on November 19, 1936 to Thomas and Jimmie Owens in Pampa, Texas.
Being a lifelong resident of Pampa, she has laid many roots in this community and touched many lives in numerous capacities. At the young age of 12, she began what would be a lifelong ministry of piano playing at First Baptist Church, then at Barrett Baptist Church for 50+ years and eventually at Cornerstone Baptist Church for 3 years. Not only did she serve as pianist for all those years, but she was just as faithful and dedicated to help on the kitchen and even the decorating committees as well. She married her best friend and soulmate, Douglas Fisher, on August 31, 1956 at First Baptist Church and together they were an asset to the community churches. As Youth Ministers at Barrett Baptist Church, Doug drove the bus and Peggy assisted with the retreats and camping trips. Peggy was very blessed in that she was able to stay at home and become a homemaker extraordinaire. She was quite a social butterfly and could carry on a conversation with anyone. She thoroughly enjoyed shopping and was especially fond of jewelry. She would never be seen without being “madeup” after 8am! She and Doug enjoyed traveling, were extremely faithful servants of God, were more than willing to serve in needed capacities in their church homes, loved their family and completely doted on their grandkids and great-grandkids. Peggy was an excellent cook and was known by her family as the Chocolate Wesson Oil Cake Queen! Although the last year of her life was very difficult at times, Peggy was resilient and overcame every challenge through her unwavering faith in Jesus. She was known as an extraordinarily strong woman in both her steadfast faith as well as life in general. Her vigor, loving outlook and compassionate personality (not to mention the Chocolate Wesson Oil Cake) will be sorely missed by all her family and friends.
Peggy was greeted with open arms into heaven by her husband, Doug Fisher; her parents; a brother, Thomas Owens, Jr.; a baby sister and her beloved In-laws, Virgil and Faye Fisher.
Those she has left here to reminisce about her memories are two sons, Kirk Fisher and wife Jennifer of Mustang, OK, Keith Fisher and wife Julia of Pampa; three grandchildren, Vanessa Workman and husband James of Pampa, Jessica Duran and Josh Taylor of Mustang, OK, Jaymes Duran also of Mustang; three great-grandchildren, Lily Workman, Russ Workman, Waylon Taylor as well as a host of nieces, nephews and beloved In-laws.
You may pay your respects to Peggy on Tuesday, June 16th from 5-8 pm and again Wednesday from 9am until 8pm with a Gathering of Family and Friends from 6-7pm at Winegeart Funeral Home.
Celebration of Life services have been scheduled for 10am, Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Cornerstone Baptist Church with Associate Pastor Kyle Collins officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.
Should donations be a preference, Peggy’s family has suggested memorials be made to the Vision Fund at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 2410 W. 23rd Avenue, Pampa, TX 79065 in her honor.
