Just a thought: Emerging on the other side

How you see the world depends on where you are standing. And where you are standing makes all the difference in how you see the world.

We each have our own unique view of the world. We see the world differently than the person on either side of us. Despite common views with others, we are each one of a kind.

We each have a different history. We’ve each walked different steps to get to the path on our life journey that we find ourselves on right now. Within us are experiences the person we are engaging with may not have experienced and we hold biases and prejudices we’ve developed over our years. This is not a negative observation, just reality.

You and I agree on many things, but given enough time I believe we could find we differ on several views of the world. It’s because each one of us is the first of one edition. When God created you He signed off on His artwork with you as 1/1. He made only one you. And this is amazing in a world of over seven billion lives.

So, we woke up this morning standing where we stand.

We’re living through an experience that is impacting all of us. Our world has changed in the past couple of months. We will have more change in the months ahead. Regardless of where you stand on COVID-19, both you and your world will never be the same.

In the last several weeks I’ve interacted with individuals who have said the entire COVID-19 thing is a hoax. I have interacted with individuals who are scared to death to leave their home. I’m not sure either of these extreme views of the world are healthy, but it’s not up to me to try to reprogram another’s life.

I go out in public and some people wear face masks and others don’t. Again, different strokes for different folks. It depends on where a person stands.

You stood where you stood when the Coronavirus began and then we all entered this craziness. We’ve been living in a time of uncertainty and unknowns. Human nature is to like certainty, stability, and to be able to control our present and our future. It’s hard to see when this world will return. Although we will get there, we have not yet emerged on the other side. One thing I do know is that we are one day closer than we were yesterday.

How does the other side look? It will be alright. We will find a way to adapt and adjust.

I predict that when the crisis we are experiencing is in the rear view mirror, the sun will come up in the east and a new day will begin. Gravity will still exist. We’ll still have rainy days. There’ll be an event in your life that will cause you to raise your arms in celebration. There’ll be an event in your life that will kick you onto your rear.

We’ll share the story we are living today. God gave us free will and our minds work differently. This leads to different opinions on different issues. We’ll live the rest of our lives with our own personal thoughts on what has happened.

We’ll speak to future youth about the virus of 2020. We will tell our story with our own spin. The generations who come after us will carry on with what we teach them while they experience future times of war and dance to love songs not yet written.

That’s my prediction of what the other side will look like once we emerge.

You see, at the end of the day life is what we make it. Even with a “stay home” command, there’s an exciting world to experience.

One person wakes up and thinks “Good Lord, another day.” Next door a person wakes up and says “Thank you Lord, another day!” The same sun rises for both of them. The weather for the day will be the same. They’ll both walk out their front doors and engage with others. Each one will have a different experience before returning home.

At the end of the day, what you get out of this world is directly tied to what you put into it. Your life is a series of deposits and returns. You control what you deposit and you control how you handle the return.

My challenge to you today is to assess where you stand. Understand you control this. Recognize where you stand controls your view of the world. You may be right where you want to be. Or maybe you need to move five or ten steps one direction or another.

You stood somewhere when the COVID-19 crisis began. You stand in a different position today. And you will moving to yet another position as we emerge from the temporary new normal.

It will be alright when we emerge. Our uniqueness will cause us to see the world differently than we did before this storm arrived.
