Rev up Your Engines: Amarillo Kart Complex

Kyle and Brad Yuchinski, the brother duo behind the rebuild of the Amarillo Kart Complex have a deep history in racing. Both have competed in multiple variations of the sport, including karting and took a huge interest in the Amarillo location after years of racing at the track themselves.

“We’ve raced all of our lives,” Kyle said. “We raced in Amarillo in August of 2022 and learned that it was in the process of looking for new ownership. After a lot of talking with our wives, they graced us with their approval to buy the track. So in December, we finalized the purchase.”

The brothers own an investment company in San Antonio where they live with their families. Both brothers have been in racing their whole lives and have always had the dream of owning their own race track.

“It’s always been a dream to own a track,” Kyle said. “Like all racers, that was the dream. So after I learned about it, I knew I wanted to go for it. I talked with my brother, and we came up and made an offer and the rest is history.”

The brothers already have new visions and plans for the track before even taking on the task of acquiring it. Naming it one of the top tracks in the country from their experience in racing tracks across the country, the brothers quickly got to work building their dream into a reality.

“I’ve raced all over the country, and this track is one of the best,” Kyle said. “We knew right away what all we wanted to do with this location, of course we wanted to add a rental portion of the track for families to come out and enjoy, but at the same time keep the racing side of it for races throughout the year.”

Kyle has taken part in the Super-Nats in Vegas for several years, racing alongside some of the current Formula 1 drivers, deep rooting himself in the sport and art of racing. Kyle started racing at 11 in karting, going all across Texas and the country. The track in Amarillo is an eight-hour distance from the brothers’ families and lives, but the commitment to Amarillo goes beyond that.

“We were granted such grace from our wives,” Kyle said. “We came to Amarillo and saw the opportunity to make this into something far more than it has been. The location and the track itself were already amazing, but there was so much opportunity to expand and give the Panhandle a whole new element of things to do.”

The track is located on the same side of Amarillo as the new Buc-ee’s coming to Amarillo. Sitting on nearly 60 acres, the kart track itself takes up about 25 acres. Once the track is opened fully, the team plans to expand the property to have more entertainment.

“Once we get up and running, we have plans to add more,” Kyle said. “We’ve thought about adding on a paint-ball spot, or a big stage for a music center like an amphitheater.”

As of now, the track offers rental karts and party rooms for all different kinds of events. The location will be hosting for corporate events, with some already lined up, or just any celebration event.

“We have some companies that have reached out to do events out here,” Kyle said. “We also of course will host birthday parties of all kinds, and ministry events for churches. Hosting anything and everything we can.”

The brothers want the track to be a family affair, already bringing their kids into the events and world of racing.

“We want this to be a place where families can come and get together,” Kyle said. “In today’s time, it’s so hard to get that family time, and that’s the environment we’re aiming to create in Amarillo.”

The grand opening is set for the weekend of May 6th, with events starting Friday the 5th, with lots of people lined up to be in attendance.

“That opening weekend, we’ll have some give-aways,” Kyle said. “From the feedback we’ve received so far, we are planning to just hold onto our belts and try to weather the storm for the opening weekend. We don’t have celebrities or anything like that planned to be there for the opening weekend, but that’s in the future for sure.”

The track will be featured in the pro-karting circuit for the country and will host a multitude of pro races that fans can attend. One race is planned in July, but the brothers aim to get more added. But, there will also be club racing for people to come out and run their karts for practice, with local racing for the club the brothers are building at the track.

So far, the brothers’ only restoration projects on the track have been adding offices and new features.

“We outfitted one of the warehouses to home our offices here,” Kyle said. “But the location was already in great condition, the changes and things added were for the plans we had for the track under our ownership. We added party rooms and bathrooms to be able to host the rental track. We added a big grid outside and added some overhead viewing area and stepped up on the infrastructure to prepare for the pro races we have coming in. The location looks nothing like it did the day we bought it.”

The track will be open Thursday through Sunday for the first month, but once summer hits, it’ll be open six days a week closed on Mondays. Afternoon times during the week, starting early but also with a lighted track, the place will remain open and operational in the evening hours. Opening at noon on Saturdays and Sundays. Right now, there are 25 rental karts, some two-seaters for a driver with a small kid but also cadet karts for younger drivers that want to do it on their own.
