Seeking New Members

Pampa’s local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1657 is looking for new members to join. Any veteran who served honorably in any foreign war is welcomed to join.

Post Commander, Richard “Rick” Dunn, spoke about the importance of gathering new members as well as maintaining the VFW Post in Pampa. Dunn served in the U.S. Army for 12 years and was stationed in Vietnam for three years.

“We are trying to recruit new members so we can keep the VFW alive,” Dunn said. “Our current members are getting older and we don’t have enough new members to sustain the VFW.”

VFW Post 1657 has bi-monthly meetings at 7:00 pm on every second and fourth Tuesday of the month. As well, VFW Post 1657 has a dedicated Auxiliary organization whose members consist of relatives of veterans who have served in overseas combat.

In addition to meetings, the VFW Post regularly hosts events for the members and their family. Notable events include the Veteran’s Day Parade, ‘A Christmas Meal’ and monthly Cornhole Tournaments.

“On February 28th, we will be having a meal before the meeting,” Dunn said. “We are inviting all veterans and their families. It will be at 6:00 pm.”

Members of the VFW can also receive benefits that include medical services, financial services, retail discounts, transition to civilian life services and end of life services.

For veterans who are interested in joining VFW Post 1657, contact Post Quartermaster Pat Montoya at (806) 669-1264 or Post Commander Richard “Rick” Dunn at (806) 570-7508. VFW Post meetings and events are held at 105 South Cuyler Street.
