Wanda Lou Topper Mitchell, 87 years of age, of Pampa, Texas, was called home by her Lord and Savior on the morning of Sunday, June 4, 2023, in Wheeler, Texas. She was born one of seven children on May 31, 1936, to George Herman Topper and Nancy Ann Myers Topper in Wheeler County.

Following her graduation from Wheeler High School in May of 1954, Wanda married her high school beau just one month later on June 6, 1954, in Wheeler. Together, they were a dynamic duo volunteering for Meals on Wheels and fostered numerous children for Gray County as well as High Plains Childrens Home. They were able to provide a stable home environment, although at times chaotic with their seven children, but always full of love!

Throughout the years, Wanda worked several diverse jobs including at Bobette Beauty Shop, Quilts & More, a plus size women’s clothing store, Alco, and Mary Ellen & Harvester Church of Christ where she was also an active member and teacher.

Those who were anxiously awaiting her arrival into eternity were her parents; beloved husband, Jack; daughter, Frankie Fletcher; grandson, Koltan Henderson; four brothers, Bill, Paul, John and Herman Topper and two sisters, Katie Fintewald and Mary Ann Maxwell.

Her memories will be cherished by her seven children, Laura Underwood of Borger, Texas, Russell Mitchell of Pearland, Texas, Molly Carriere of Pearland, Texas, Susan Henderson of Pampa, Texas, William Mitchell and wife Nikki of Clinton, Maryland, Jason Mitchell of Lockport, New York as well as 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Celebration of Life Memorial services are scheduled for 10:30 am, Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ with Elder Frankie Lemons officiating. The family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home. Wanda will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in the Wheeler Cemetery with private services as requested by her family.

Should donations be preferred, the family asks they be made to High Plains Childrens Home and Family Services Foundation, Inc., 11461 S. Western Street, Amarillo, TX 79118-411 in honor of Wanda.
