When Wayne was old enough, he enlisted in the Air Force. He received his education in the Air Force and served as an aircraft mechanic. While stationed in Roswell, New Mexico, Wayne married the love of his life, Glynnda Beck, on July 15, 1966. Soon after, they welcomed their son, Allen. From 1971 to 1972, Wayne served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1973.

From 1990 to 1996, he worked at the Jorden Unit for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Wayne began hauling pipe in the late 1990s for Bourland and Leverich Pipe Company. Wayne loved his family dearly, and also had a special spot in his heart for his dog, Precious.

In his free time, Wayne had many hobbies to keep him busy. He often worked on old, junker cars. He would also hunt, fish, watch Westerns and old Sci-Fi movies on TV, all while drinking his coffee.
