The White Deer ISD Board of Trustees met in a regular session on Monday, March 20th, 2023. The meeting started in the cafeteria with recognition of the elementary all-A Honor roll for the first semester. Once all the students were recognized for their hard work the board reconvened in the board room for the remainder of the meeting.

The Board took action to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. A discussion was held with the trustees regarding the school calendar for the 2023-2024 school year. There were two options discussed, a 4-day calendar and a 5-day calendar. The trustees talked about the pros and cons of both calendars. It was determined more information is needed and it was requested by the board the district host a community meeting and distribute a survey to all stakeholders, regarding the two options. A meeting is scheduled for March 28th at 6:00 p.m. in the High School auditorium. At this community meeting the district will be presenting information about the two options for next year’s school calendar, 6th grade moving up to the Junior High, and the P-Tech program.

The board heard reports from the principals and directors of the school district, reviewed the Business Manager’s report, and received an update from the Superintendent. The current enrollment of White Deer ISD is 320 with a daily average attendance of 304.

After the discussion, the board went into an executive session to discuss a proposed compensation plan for the district and staff contracts for the 2023-2024 school year. Staff contracts and the compensation plan were both approved as presented in the closed session. In addition, the board approved an additional 10 days to two coaches’ salaries for the 2022-2023 school year.

The compensation plan includes $6,000 across all the current steps for teachers, plus all other employees received anywhere from a $1.00 - $2.00 raise per hour. The district also approved principal and director salary ranges. This compensation plan will bring White Deer ISD closer to other larger schools in the area for potential staff recruitment, when needed, and staff retention. The White Deer ISD Board of trustees believe the people who work here in White Deer are the most important asset for the children they teach and help every day.
