Thresa Lewis Hinds

Thresa Lewis Hinds died peacefully on Saturday, November 14, 2020 in Ft. Worth, Texas, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She faced this challenging journey by combining her lifelong practice of determination with her steadfast positive attitude. She was surrounded by the loving support of her son, Max Allen Hinds and daughter, Ruth Ann Nethery.  Though she was “Thresa” to most people, the names she treasured most were “Dada” and “Grandma”. Her cherished grandchildren, Luke and Lauren gave her the name, “Dada” and her cherished first grandchild, Ann, gave her the name, “Grandma.”

Thresa Lewis Hinds also known as Grandma or Dada Hinds was born on October 22, 1943 in Borger, Texas. She graduated from Borger High School in 1962 and then went on to further her career through Drawn’s Business School in Amarillo, Texas.

She lived a large portion of her life in Skellytown, Texas, where she was married to Gary Hinds and raised her beloved son and daughter.  Thresa had a career as a United States Postmaster and worked in that capacity for 37 years.

After retiring in June 2012, she moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where she “played and literally danced” her way into her a new life.  Although she knew only a few people in Ft. Worth, she was quickly adopted by a dancing group that met regularly to dance and enjoy each other’s company. She also traveled and especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren and their activities. She lived her life to the fullest and enriched the lives of all who knew her. She was a member of Arlington Heights United Methodist Church in Ft. Worth. Thresa loved spending time with family and friends, and often could be heard saying, “I have the best friends.” and “I have the best family.” She will be remembered for her optimistic view in all circumstances and her kind and always generous spirit.  All who knew and loved Thresa have no doubt she was smiling as she danced her way into Heaven.

Thresa is survived by her son Max Hinds and granddaughter, Ann Hinds of Lake Jackson, Texas; her daughter, Ruth Hinds Nethery, son-in-law, Dr. David Nethery, and grandchildren Luke Allen Nethery and Lauren Ruth Nethery of Fort Worth, Texas.   She is also survived by her brother, Carroll Lewis of Amarillo, Texas, and her sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Donald Ingerson of Hobbs, New Mexico.  She was preceded in death by her brother Elton Lewis.

Family plans are to have a Celebration of Life in Fort Worth, Texas, but at this time no date is available due to Covid precautions. The family welcomes friends to the Graveside Ceremony which will be in Stinnett, Texas, at the Stinnett Cemetery on December the 5th, 2020 at 10:30 am. Thresa’s cousin, Jimmy Lewis will conduct the services.

The family requests any memorial donation be made to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch and Affiliate, PO Box 1890, Amarillo, Texas 79174-0001.  Phone: 800-687-3722.  Website: www.calfarley.org
