Larkin, Hanen homer in 4-3 Pampa loss
The Pampa Lady Harvesters (10-7-1, 4-4) hosted Hereford in a rematch from their 19-18 loss on March 30. The game was quite the opposite of the 37-run earlier match-up, as the Lady Harvesters fell 4-3 on the cold, blustery Friday afternoon.
“I’m really proud of them, they’ve been working really hard,” Head Coach Dottie Hawthorne said. “We moved some people around and the defense has really improved. I think the cold had a little bit today with our fingers being frozen when they (Hereford) had that hit and our two errors. I’m really proud of them, though, they are working hard.”
Sophomore Sydney Larkin and junior Jasmine Hanen each went the yard in the match-up. Both of the home runs came with two outs, Hanen’s with freshmen pitcher Kyleigh Kirby on base to pull Pampa within a run at 4-3.
Speaking of Kirby, the freshmen tallied seven punch-outs in seven innings.
“Kyleigh Kirby is a vital part of our team and she has that mentality to do the best that she can for her team,” Hawthorne said. “She’s a great leader and I feel like the girls are confident when she’s on the mound and they back her up. She’s a good little freshmen.”
The Lady Harvesters return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Perryton. Varsity plays at 4:30 p.m.
“We’re working on offense. I feel like we are struggling a little bit,” Hawthorne said.
“We have strong bats, but I feel like we aren’t having great games (offensively). We do well in practice, I don’t know what it is in the game but we tend to not have as much confidence as they should. I know what they are capable of and my expectations are way up there for them.”
Kyleigh Kirby pitched seven innings with six hits, four runs, four earned runs, seven strikeouts and two walks.
Kirby also went 1-3 with a run scored and one walk; Makenzie Anguiano went 2-4 with two doubles; Jasmine Hanen went 1-3 with two RBI, a home run, a run scored and a walk; Sydney Larkin went 2-4 with a run scored, a RBI and a home run; Reagan Dyer went 1-2 with a walk; Jasmine Martinez went 1-3 and Hallie Hawthorne went 2-4.
