Doris Freeman, 86, of White Deer, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023 in Amarillo.
Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, June 23, 2023 at First Baptist Church in White Deer with Pastor Alan Wilson, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in White Deer Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Doris was born February 22, 1937 in Covington, Oklahoma to Don and Arlene Carter. She was raised in Skellytown and attended high school at White Deer. She married Clint Freeman on April 27, 1954 in Clovis, New Mexico. He passed away on March 30, 2017. Doris has lived in White Deer since 1954. In 1958, they purchased Clint’s Zero Lockers, which is now known as Clint & Sons, she kept the books for the family business until they sold the business in 1981to their sons. Doris also kept books for all of Clint’s cattle operations through the years. She worked for White Deer Independent School District for many years as a teacher’s aide, retiring in 2016.
Doris was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in White Deer where she served as head hostess for 47 years. She was also involved in Beta Sigma Phi, Mugs and Muffins, and Women on Mission. Doris served as secretary for the Lady’s Auxiliary of the White Deer Riding Club and was a member of Venada Blanca Study Group. She was a member of the Daughter’s of the Pioneers, White Deer Senior Citizen’s Center, and volunteered at the White Deer/Skellytown Food Pantry.
Doris enjoyed cooking, reading, and fishing. One of her most cherished times where her yearly trips with family to Lake City Colorado. She loved her family and enjoyed following all her children and grandchildren’s sporting events. She loved White Deer and was a loyal Buck and Doe Fan. She was known as “Grandma Doris” not only to her family, but many others in the community.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter-in-law, Mona Freeman.
Survivors include her daughter, Dianna Bohannon and husband Lloyd of Wellington; three sons, Johnny Freeman and wife Lori and Joe Freeman and wife Jennifer all of White Deer, and Matt Freeman and wife Kara of Bushland; two brothers, Donald Gene Carter and wife Reece of Bowling Green, Kentucky and Rev. Ken Carter and wife Patsy of Lubbock; 17 grandchildren, Amanda Saffel and husband Phillip, Justin Freeman and wife Lacee, Skylar Landess and husband Thomas, John-Payton Freeman and fiancée Steeley Smith, Katelyn Booze and husband Jake, Jaden Freeman and fiancé Kade Smith, Hadley Freeman, Gage Freeman, Graysen Freeman and Blaklyn Barber, Braden Clay and wife Makenna, Bo Bryant Bohannon and wife Samantha, Brittni Bohannon, Alabama Bohannon and wife Tori, Sonny Bohannon and fiancé Rylee Cummings, Hayz Noland, Saige Freeman, and Charley Freeman; 11 great grandchildren, Olivia Saffel, Everett Saffel, Jaxon Freeman, Logan Freeman, Hunter Freeman, Sloane Booze, Beck Booze, Slade Freeman, Navey Bohannon, Bryce Bohannon, and Ryder Bohannon.
