Gary Wayne “Huck” Watie, 65, of Pampa, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 in Lubbock.

Memorial services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, September 16, 2024 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Pastor Jim Sinyard, pastor of Carpenter’s Church, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Huck was born July 17, 1959, to Eula Dean Watie Bradshaw in Pampa, Texas.

Most of Huck’s childhood was spent growing up in Pampa, but in the mid 1970’s his family moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he attended high school.

Huck later moved back to Pampa where he began his career in the automotive field. He took a job with West Texas Ford where he worked for many years in the auto repair/maintenance department.

Later in life after he left the automotive industry, he worked for Pampa ISD until he was injured in accident and went on disability.

On July 17, 1981, he married Annette Louise Davis. Although they did not remain married, they remained best friends throughout life. Annette preceded Huck in death in 2007.

Huck was a true lover of music, no matter what the genre. He could play the guitar and keyboard without any musical training. He could sing like a bird.

He never turned anyone down when asked to sing for any event or occasion, whether it was at church, The Peppermint, a party, Chautauqua, or the OCB, he couldn’t wait to get on the stage and show his skills. He believed he was the best Karaoke singer in all of West Texas. He also liked to DJ. He DJ many events in the Panhandle area.

Although singing was dear to Huck’s heart, he also loved to fish, ride motorcycles, shoot pool (he played in lots of tournaments locally and long distance), and cook. Huck got his love for cooking from his grandmother and his mom. And as with most things he was very competitive in the kitchen.

On holidays they would compete in the kitchen, to see who made the best dish. A fond memory of the family is one summer after Huck had lost his eyesight; he was Bar B Queuing ribs. That food was really Good!!

Huck was preceded in death by his mother, Eula Dean Bradshaw, his maternal grandparents, William "Tut" and Verla Watie, his uncle, William “Penny” Watie and his aunt Ethel Kay Simmons.

Huck is survived by his sister, Karen Price of Pampa, uncle and aunt, Herman and Loretta Watie of Baytown, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
