Lefors City Meeting

The City of Lefors had their monthly city meeting earlier this week.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Mayor Michael Ray. Present were Council members Ashley Miller, James Gee, Jerry Stegall, Savanah Kingcade, and Aaron Hunt.

Mayor Ray led the Pledge of Allegiance. Councilman Gee said the Invocation.

Public works director, Nick York, submitted a written report: 1.) Repaired numerous washouts due to high volume of rain. 2.) Ran new service line on 9th street. 3.) Repaired service line on 2nd street. 4.) Marked sewer and water mains for replacement with grant from Texas Department Of Agriculture. 5.) Was having problems with well #7, would not turn on. Replaced bad fuse. 6.) Keeping park, baseball field, wastewater plant, ground storage tank, water tower, well #7 and #8, and around shop mowed.

City Marshal, Hayden Gray, reported to Council: Complaints received:-Animal Complaints: 2- Traffic Complaints: 2-Noise Complaints: 3 -Other: 2. Calls for service: On duty: 2 Call-out: 6 Reports: Criminal Reports: Traffic Stops: 36 Traffic Citations (to include parking violations) issued: 14 Warnings issued: 22 City Ordinance Warnings issued: 2 Arrests: 3

City Judge Kurt Curfman submitted a written report: For the month of May 2023, we had receipts of $2,322.00. There were 18 new complaints or citations filed with the Court from the Marshal. These were for state or City ordinances violations. At this current time, we have an outstanding balance of fines and court costs due to the City of Lefors of $13,377.00. All local, state, and federal reports are current at this time.

Councilman Hunt made a motion to approve the consent agenda items including minutes of the May 8, 2023, regular meeting, bills, and department reports. Councilwoman Kingcade seconded. Vote unanimous. Motion passed.

Councilman Hunt made a motion to appoint Councilwoman Ashley Miller to the Cemetery Committee. (Mayor is second Council member to Cemetery Committee) Councilman Stegall seconded. Vote unanimous. Motion passed.

Councilman Gee made a motion to accept sealed bids, to be opened at the July 10, 2023, meeting, for a 2000 Ford Pick-up (white), a 1995 Chevrolet 1-ton Pick-up (white), and a pressure washer. Councilman Stegall seconded. Vote unanimous. Motion passed.

Consideration of amending Ordinance regarding fireworks was tabled until July 10, 2023, regular meeting.

Councilwoman Miller made a motion to reimburse Michael Ray for two sets of blades for the maintainer in the amount of $500.00 and a water tank to be used at the wastewater plant in the amount of $100.00 he purchased for the City. Councilman Stegall seconded. Vote unanimous. Motion passed.

Councilwoman Miller made a motion to adjourn. Councilman Hunt seconded. Vote unanimous. Motion passed.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:27 p.m.
