Mary Elizabeth Fatheree, 87, of Santa Fe and formerly of Pampa, passed away on October 27, 2023 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church of Pampa with Rev. Dr. Ken McIntosh, pastor and Commissioned Pastor Nancy Ruff officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Mary was born November 7, 1935 in Duncan, Oklahoma to James and Gladys Mann. She graduated from Duncan High School in 1954 and earned her degree in English and Journalism from the University of Oklahoma. While she was there, she was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. In 1958, she married J. David Fatheree in Duncan, Oklahoma. He passed away on April 15, 2005. After marrying J. David, they moved to Pampa in the early 1960’s to make Pampa their home. Mary was the office manager of Fatheree Insurance for many years and was also a freelance writer. She was a frequent writer for Focus Magazine for many years. Mary was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Pampa where she a member of the choir and served as the choir director for several years. She loved Pampa and supported many charities and organizations locally and nationally over the years which include; St. Judes Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, National Federation of the Blind, PAWS, In Touch Ministries, High Plains Food Bank, White Deer Land Museum, Guiding Eyes for the Blind, Feed Out Veterans, Disabled Veterans National Foundation, Delta Gamma Foundation, Christ Church of Santa Fe, CASA of the High Plains, American Red Cross, Amarillo Area Foundation, Allen Jackson Ministries, and Adopt a Platoon. Mary had a giving heart and wanted to be able to help others. She was passionate about the things she loved, fine art, OU Football, animal charities, children’s charities, and veterans. 

Mary loved her family and enjoyed all of God’s creations. Many times, when her grandchildren or friends would visit her in Santa Fe, they would find themselves at some type of museum or art exhibit. She also loved reading, cooking, and organizing. Mary was able to live out her dream, by moving to Santa Fe, for the past 10 years.  Her kind and giving heart will be missed by all who knew her.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, J. David Fatheree; her son, David Mann Fatheree; and a grandson, Dillon Fatheree.

Survivors include three grandchildren, Taylor Fatheree and wife Kinleigh of Denver, Colorado, Garrett Fatheree of Fort Worth, Madison Shelden and husband Jeb of Pampa; and special family, Kristi, Larry, and Chandler Petty.
