Panhandle Plains Fishing Report

Alan Henry-GOOD. Water clear; 82 degrees; 0.47 feet below pool. Crappie are good in 20-35 feet on jigs and minnows. Report by The Bait Shop, Post, Texas.

Arrowhead-GOOD. Water lightly stained; 86 degrees; 4.39 feet below pool. Catfish are good drifting the main lake with fresh cut shad. The crappie seem to be in a good summer pattern on brush piles at the Oil Derrick and around docks in the shade. Report by Brandon Brown, Brown’s Guide Service.

Cisco-GOOD. Water normal stain; 82 degrees; 12.75 feet below pool. Channel catfish continue to be great on perch and cutbait. Sunfish are good on worms. Largemouth bass are good on topwater lures. Report by Lake Cisco Rentals. .

Coleman-SLOW. Water stained; 80 degrees; 3.22 feet below pool. Largemouth bass are biting topwaters in the morning. Later in the day target standing timber with finesse baits. Crappie are good in Rattlesnake Cove.

Ft. Phantom Hill-GOOD. Water stained; 80 degrees; 7.00 feet below pool. Hybrid stripers limits are possible fishing live shad into schools. White bass can be caught trolling with crankbaits or live shad. Largemouth bass are good on topwaters along the rocks.

Greenbelt-GOOD. Water normal stain; 80 degrees; 47.78 feet below pool. Crappie are in standing timber. Sand bass are good. Catfish are good on minnows and worms. Largemouth bass are good.

Hubbard Creek-GOOD. Water Stained; 80 degrees; 12.76 feet below pool. Blue catfish can be caught on juglines with live bait or cut carp. White bass are schooling throughout the day.

Meredith-FAIR. Water stained; 81 degrees; 46.92 feet below pool. Fishing patterns are holding steady. White bass are excellent on just about anything. Bass are good on minnows and artificials. Catfish are fair to good with crawlers, minnows, chicken liver and frozen shad. Crappie are fair with artificial baits and minnows. Trout are slow, slow and slow on powerbaits, minnows, worms, small spinners, spoons and flies. Walleye are excellent on minnows, grubs, and other artificial baits. Millers Creek-SLOW. Water stained; 88 degrees; 0.10 feet below pool. Few reports and anglers on the water. The best bite will be early and late in the day.

Nasworthy-FAIR. Water slightly stained; 87 degrees. 0.54 feet below pool. The bass bite has been good on white chatterbaits and spinnerbaits early morning and evening. Midday flipping soft plastics around reed bases in 1-3 feet of water is the ticket to catch shaded up largemouth bass. Crappie were good around boat docks on chartreuse jigs and catfish were fair on cut bait and stink bait around river channel bends. Report provided by the Angelo State Fishing Team.

O.C. Fisher-SLOW. Water stained; 80 degrees; 53.65 feet below pool. Few reports and anglers fishing due to low lake levels.

O.H. Ivie-GOOD. Water slightly stained; 87 degrees; 30.71 feet below pool. Black bass are fair to 9 pounds with a couple up to 11 pounders caught this week. Start with topwaters early in shallow water near deep water edges and brush. Then move to 5-7 inch swimbaits on windy points and ledges. Bass suspended in big pecan trees in 18-25 feet of water biting 10 inch worms. Fair limits of crappie suspended in 18-30 feet in the trees as well. Small jigs and minnows are best. White bass are schooling again early and late chasing small minnows. Rattle traps and poppers working well when schoolers come up. White bass are very good at night under lights on live bait. Oak Creek-SLOW. Water lightly stained; 80 degrees; 17.05 feet below pool. Anglers are reporting success using large plastic worms and creature type baits in 10-12 feet of water. Some reports of success using deep diving crankbaits such as the XD10. Crappie are good using live bait and BoneHead jigs in submerged brush piles. Possum Kingdom-GOOD. Water stained; 88 degrees; 0.09 feet below pool. Striper are fair to good in 30-70 feet of water. Live bait is still consistently putting fish in the boat, but some can be caught using spoons. Downriggers are not consistent right now. Good colors are white, and silver, and chartreuse. Sand bass are still slow in 20-30 feet of water with live shad, small slabs and white or silver jigs. Catfish are fair on cut shad in 5-20 feet of water. Proctor-SLOW. Water stained; 85 degrees; 2.55 feet below pool. Fishing is slow for all species. Catfish are slow on rod-and-reel or jug lines.

Spence-SLOW. Water stained; 85 degrees. 49.33 feet below pool. The fishing has been tough for black bass. Anglers are reporting success with plastics in the brush from 8-10 feet. The colors have been green pumpkin and motor oil. The baits have varied from creature baits to worms. I would recommend crankbaits in addition to the above such as the XD10 later in the morning. No report for crappie. Catfish reports are good using cut bait and shrimp. Anglers should try those baits using the Santee Cooper rig. This technique allows the bait to suspend from the bottom. Stamford-GOOD. Water normal stain; 85 degrees; 0.18 feet above pool. Cooler weather in the forecast which can help the bite. Bass are fair with three fish stringers weighing in at 15 pounds. Target the cattails with white or shard colored soft plastics. Crappie and catfish are fair. Catfish bite typically improves at the end of August. White bass up to 16 inches have been caught schooling throughout the lake in the morning and evenings.

Twin Buttes-GOOD. Water stained. 87 degrees; 37.03 feet below pool. Channel catfish are fair on cheese bait and fresh cut bait on the main lake humps in deeper water. Target slightly above, in and just below the thermocline. Crappie seem to be on vacation and very slow to bite. White bass are surfacing every morning to chase shad. Throw anything shiny at them. White River-GOOD. Water normal stain; 85 degrees; 21.06 feet below pool. Catfish are good. Crappie are good on minnows. Largemouth bass are biting in deeper water ledges with soft plastics.
