Janet Sue “Nana” Snapp, 74 years old, of Pampa, Texas, is no longer held captive to the pain and restrictions of her earthly tent as she is now at complete rest after taking God’s hand Sunday, June 23rd, 2024, while hospitalized in Amarillo surrounded by cherished ones.
Jan was born on June 17, 1950, the middle of three daughters to A.W. and Ferline Calvert in Salem, Illinois.
At the age of five, A.W. and Ferline transferred from Illinois to Pampa, making this their home.
While Jan was in high school, she met Allen on a blind date while he was home on leave from Vietnam. From that point on, they communicated the only way possible – via snail mail. Typically writing a letter every day to one another, Allen even proposed through his writings and had to mail the engagement ring which she happened to receive on April Fool’s Day!
Jan graduated from PHS with the class of ‘68’ then shortly afterwards, on July 12, 1968, she and Allen married at Highland Baptist Church.
Fortunate enough to remain a housewife and mom, she rocked it! Loud music thumping in the car, easygoing, lenient within parameters, and often provided a safe haven for Alana and Chad’s friends. She loved her kids and was extremely proud of both but that didn’t compare to the love she had for her grandbabies.
Jan was extremely talented and there weren’t many things she couldn’t do or figure out how to do. She was a gifted artist, could paint in oils, acrylics, watercolor, painted ceramics, could cut in a room like no other, and was the wallpaper hanging queen.
She was remarkable at remodeling, enjoyed looking at floorplans, decorating and shopping. Her passion for redesigning and making over any place was always at the ready! Anytime one of her family or friends needed help, she had Allen loading up tools, and had paintbrush in hand ready to start. She’s put her touch on many houses, turning them into beautiful homes.
Until falling ill, she absolutely loved camping with her family and friends and traveling all around the world. She spent countless hours working puzzles of all kinds, shopping, watching TV shows, and loved playing games whether it be cards, board or dice and did we mention shopping?
Growing up in a Christian home, Jan accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age and although drifted away for a bit in her adulthood, could no longer ignore the conviction and became an active member of Highland Baptist Church for many years.
Throughout those years, Jan served in many capacities including Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Chairman of the Counting Committee, Deacon’s wife, choir member, kitchen committee, and WMU. She absolutely loved her church family.
Those who knew Jan understood she could be very temperamental, opinionated, maybe a little stubborn and sometimes even ornery, but you also had to know what an enormous giving and loving heart she had! She wanted nothing more than to help others and to make others’ lives better.
With all this being said, Jan’s greatest accomplishment was probably having Allen wrapped around her little finger! No matter what endeavor she decided to embark upon, she always had him lined out with all necessary tools instructing him how to take on any project and of course “supervising” his every move.
Upon her arrival into Heaven, she was reunited with her parents, A.W. and Ferline; father and mother-in-law, Mervin and Ruth Snapp; sister, Vicki Spencer; brother-in-law, Paul Spencer; two grandchildren, Shandra Snapp, Jarred Winegeart; nephew, Billy Gunn and great-niece, Nikki Guenther.
Those remaining to celebrate her life and cherish her memories are her husband of almost 56 years, Allen Snapp; daughter, Alana Winegeart and husband William all of Pampa; son, Chad Snapp and wife Melissa of McLean; sister, Marty Campbell and husband Jimmy of Tinker Air Force Base, OK; brothers-in-law, Donnie Snapp and wife Rhonda, Bill Snapp and wife Carol; sisters-in-law, Ginger Jones and husband John, Karen Mendoza and husband George all of Pampa; best friend and soul sister, Monty Schaub of Chicago; five grandchildren, Austen Snapp of Pampa, Ashten Snapp of Lubbock, Chloe’ Winegeart of Plainview, Caleb Snapp of McLean and Victoria Winegeart of Pampa as well as a plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members who loved her.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to Maria Copado for the amazing and loving care you gave to our loved one. You are absolutely blessed with the gift of caregiving for others. We know it wasn’t easy at times to carry out your duties due to her stubbornness, but thankfully you have the patience of Job and never gave up on her. We love you and thank you for blessing our family!

A Gathering of Family and Friends Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 26 th from 6-8pm at Winegeart Funeral Home Serinity Chapel, 300 W Browning Ave.
Celebration of Life Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00pm, Thursday, June 27 th , 2024, at Winegeart Funeral Home Serinity Chapel with Brother Paul Nachtigall officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
